The Twinning Association was formed in 1978, after a Public Meeting called by the Parish Council, who thought it would be advantageous for this village and the surrounding area to twin with a village of similar size in France.

Bellême, in Normandy, was selected because of the ease of travelling there and the fact that it was very much in keeping with our own villages. A committee was formed to organise the official Twinning Ceremonies, which took place in Bellême during Easter 1979 and in Goring during the Spring Bank Holiday of the same year.
