Since its formation in 1979, the Twinning Association has been very active over the years.
We have always encouraged a “grass roots” approach to our twinning, as can be seen from the large list of previous exchanges, which have involved many different organisations and interests.
Our twinning has not just been confined to formal exchanges at the council level, though we have had many formal ceremonies especially at major anniversaries, where gifts have been formally exchanged by local dignitaries from the two towns with the appropriate fanfare and speeches.
The pictures below show:
- All the current and past presidents and chairmen of the twinning committees
- A selection of fancy dress costumes from the past
- The Goring Millennium Tapestry which is on display on the Goring Library. A similar tapestry was presented to the Bellêmoise in 1999. The tapestries depict the many Goring and Streatley organisations
- The Village Hall Annex formally becomes the Bellême Room
- The dignatories including the Mayor of Bellême, Goring Parish Council Chairman, Twinning Chairman and Life President at the 10th Anniversary.
- Goring-on-Thames becomes part of Bellême with “Rue du Goring-on-Thames”
