The Weekend in General

The Joint Committee Meeting was hosted in Goring during the weekend of the 21st to 24th October.  By way of entertainment, the Goring and District Twinning committee took the new chairman of the Bellême Twinning committee, Raymond M, and the rest of the French Committee, for a night out at the Oxford dog track. We also took them to the Vyne, in Hampshire, where attendants in Elizabethan costume demonstrated the cookery, games and laundry techniques of the time.

Bellême and Goring have been twinned for 26 years now and we felt it was time to think again about what both communities want from twinning. We agreed that we particularly wanted to try to foster links between the young in both countries. We also agreed on senior and junior golf exchanges, a musical visit, a tennis club exchange, a language exchange and another cookery exchange - Goring to Bellême in October 2006.

We shall take a party of enthusiastic English cooks who will demonstrate traditional English cookery to small groups of Bellêmois. Last time we did this, we made the front page of the national daily, Le Figaro!

We hope to use our website www.goring-twinning.co.uk to encourage contacts (how about help with the French homework?)

We will also encourage short visits and summer jobs for the over 16’s, please contact us at Enquiries.

One of our main roles is to put organisations in touch with one another and provide contacts and support so that they can arrange exchanges. We also organise fundraising events in Goring; the next one is a Dragon Racing evening in March 2006, so do join us!
