The Wine Tasting Evening was a somewhat new venture for the Twinning Association.
Previous gastronomic ventures have included Cookery Exchanges as well as the renowned Gourmet Evenings, where six-course Courdon-Blue meals were prepared and served by the Twinning Committee. These meals were usually preceded by a wine tasting, led by a a wine expert who guided the participants through a range of wines suitable for the meal.
The Wine Tasting Evening was a less grand and more informal affair than the previous Gourmet Evenings, with the emphasis on the wine rather than the food. Nonetheless, food was provided throughout the evening, both to clean the palate between the wines and on some occasions to complement and enhance the flavour of the wine.
The outcome was regarded by one and all as a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
The wines were selected and supplied by the Wine Speaker, Ian Hewson.
Ian explained the three S’s of wine tasting:
- Sniff with the nose to take in the bouquet
- Swirl around the mouth to take in the flavour
- Spit it out. On this occasion we were allowed to Swallow!
